If the greatest power among creatures you control is 0 or less at that time, no mana is added to your pool. It doesn't use the stack and can't be responded to. If he is a nombo piece in the deck, Is he still worth an include for the protection? Or do I look elsewhere for keeping my commander safe? Selvala's last ability is a mana ability. (Temur Sabertooth, Scryb Ranger, staff of Domination/ Cloudstone Curio ect) If Eldamri is on the field, unless I've already equipped Selvala with Umbrtal Mantle, Sword of the Paruns ect, I would be out of luck for getting her to activate multiple times correct? Or is there something that I'm not seeing? The interaction i'm worried about is with Eldamri Lord of Leaves (gives shroud and Forestwalk to Elves) and the other combo pices I've included. yada yada, love big creatures, yada yada, pulled Selvala Heart of the Wilds, Yada yada. Assemble one of these and activate the commanders ability a trillion times, then sweep my opponent with fliers. But she's really just a big mana producer with a symmetric draw engine attached. Viridian Joiner or Selvala, Heart of the Wilds + Sword of the Paruns or Umbral Mantle - Infinite Green mana. Selvala isn't breaking anything, she's just good. I'm just saying the RC's opinions are so inconsistent and sometimes off-the-wall absurd that I'm left scratching my head. I'm not saying any of those deserve the banhammer - far from it, I don't think any of them actually hurt the format, which today I think is in a pretty healthy place as-is. They allow even faster mana in the form of all the mana positive rocks that enable Storm. Gaea's Cradle is similar to Selvala and 100x more powerful across a vast majority of decks. And while that's easy to do, this is like saying that Cabal COffers + Urborg should be on the watchlist, or that Growing Rites of Itlamoc should be on the watchlist. ![]() She does almost nothing on her own - she's dependent on you having an existing board state of big stuff. ![]()
